How is it that the same food for some people can be associated with fond memories of how good it tasted while other people panic and suffer from terrible anxiety when they think of it? Our feelings and thoughts have great impact on what, when and how much we eat. All of these thoughts and feelings are processed by the brain. The processing in the brain is done by molecular events that regulate the communication between different neuronal circuits. Sometimes the proceesing seem to work to our advantage in the sense that our eating makes it possible for us to live a healthy life doing what we find the most rewarding. At other times, however, the brain appears to make mistakes in how it integrates feelings, thoughts and food signals to such a degree that life-devastating eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and obesity develop.
Do you want to uncover the neuro-molecular mechanism by which the brain decides what, when and how much we
eat? Do you want to use neuro-molecular tools to discover new treatments for anorexia nervosa or obesity? Our lab integrates molecular pathways, neuronal circuit activity and animal behavior to uncover how the brain regulates food intake in health and disease. If you’re looking for a postdoc position, a postdoc in our lab will give you opportunities to build a platform for a future career in
research, science and beyond. Check out our new ad for a postdoc position or send an email to olof.lagerlof@umu.se for more information.
